In partnership with private donors, the JVS Scholarship Program offers scholarships to qualified Jewish students who primarily reside in  Los Angeles area with need-based financial aid, with the belief that education is the first step to career success.

Since its inception in 1972, JVS has awarded more than 4,900 scholarships totaling over $9.2 million. Current recipients are students pursuing both undergraduate and graduate studies at community colleges, four-year colleges, universities, graduate schools and vocational schools throughout California and across the country.

The Jewish Vocational Service (JVS)  is committed to providing the much needed aid to as many qualified recipients as possible and encourages students to reapply each year to receive help throughout their post-secondary education.



JVS offers need based scholarships to Incoming freshman, Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior and Graduate students who are resident in Los Angeles.

This academic year, JVS would be distributing $694,000 to 220 student in scholarship funds.

This opportunity is for Jewish students, with permanent residency in Los Angeles County.  The scholarship program is open to individuals who are enrolling full-time as an undergraduate or graduate student in Los Angeles.

The intention of the Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) is to provide individuals with the tools, resources and support needed to earn their own living through job training, mentoring, expert career coaching, job placement and retention support people with the ability.

The JVS Scholarship application is closed for the 2019/2020 academic year will reopen on January 1, 2019. Like other scholarships, the Jewish Vocational Service [JVS] Scholarships program can be found at specific schools and colleges, except that it is dedicated to Jewish students.

The Jewish [Yehudi ]people are considered as Israeli pronunciation of the Ancient Near East.

JVS is associated with many communities and metro areas in Los Angeles and offers financial help for students with education expenses.

Financial need and community preference are the main eligibility criteria for receiving the JVS scholarships, to facilitate studies both nationwide and local scholarships are for Jewish students looking to fund education.

Jewish Vocational Service helps undergraduate and graduate students expand their knowledge at a primary level and bring their heritage to life.

JVS considers the importance of equipping individuals with the ability to deal with crucial matters pertaining to the Jewish affairs, by preparing educators and future leaders of Jewish community. Need-based scholarships to support Jewish students from Los Angeles County in their pursuit of college,  graduate, and vocational education.

Level/ Field of Study:


The Scholarship is designed for High School Seniors wishing to enroll into an accredited College in the USA. The Scholarship has no Discipline Restriction.

Host Nationality:

The Scholarship is Hosted in the United States of America. Please no other Country is eligible to Apply.

Eligible Nationality:

The Scholarship is intended for only citizens of USA or documented legal permanent U.S. resident (green card).

JVS Scholarship Worth:

The JVS Scholarship Winners goes home with cash prizes ranging from $500 to $5,000 amount.

JVS Scholarship Requirements:


  • Must be a Jewish student
  • Minimum age of 16 years
  • Have permanent and legal resident of Los Angeles County – for a minimum of three years
  • U.S. citizen or documented legal permanent U.S. resident (green card)
  • Planning to attend an accredited public or private college, university or vocational school in the U.S.
  • Planning to enroll full-time (minimum 12 units per term)
  • Maintain a minimum 2.7 GPA for undergraduate students and a minimum 3.0 GPA for graduate students for every semester or quarter enrolled.
  • Demonstrated and verifiable financial need including FAFSA (student aid report)
  • Restricted by ethnic heritage, and specific religious affiliations: Jewish



How to Apply for JVS Scholarship:


  1. To apply for this scholarship interested candidates should visit the JVS website at https://www.jvs-socal.org/scholarship-application/
  2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible and obtain a copy of the 2019/2020 Student Aid Report (SAR).
  3. Download, print and complete the Declaration of Legal Domicile/Certification of Application.
  4. Download, print and complete the resume form.
  5. Download, print and complete the JVS Statement of Non-Filing




JVS Scholarship Application Deadline:

Completed application forms and requirement documents, including official transcript and letter of recommendation must be postmarked by March 31, 2019 (for both renewal applicants and new applicants).

A complete list of required supplemental materials is available online and any supplemental materials postmarked after the deadline will be NOT be considered.

John L. Kopronica Memorial Scholarship Adult Career Center
The John L. Kopronica Memorial Scholarship was established in 2006 in memory of John L. Kopronica by his wife, Robin, and other family members and friends.

John worked as a welder at Lorain Products and was known throughout Northeast Ohio as the clarinet and saxophone player in his band, The Castaways. The Scholarship will be awarded to an Adult Career Center student enrolled in welding courses.



Lorain County JVS Tribute Scholarship
The Lorain County JVS Student Memorial Scholarship was established in 2005 in memory of former JVS students who have passed away. In 2012, this scholarship was renamed the Lorain County Tribute Scholarship, to be given in memory or honor of students, staff, or friends of the JVS. Numerous scholarship opportunities. William R. Burton Scholarship
The William R. Burton Scholarship was established in 1994 by the Lorain County JVS Teachers’ Association in memory of William R. Burton, the founding superintendent of the Lorain County JVS. Mr. Burton devoted his efforts to establish and maintain high standards of performance for both the JVS faculty and students.



William R. Randall Scholarship
The William R. Randall Scholarship was established in 2008 by the Lorain County JVS Teachers’ Association in memory of retired Superintendent William R. Randall, with the financial support of his family, friends, Lorain County JVS staff and longtime educational associates. Mr. Randall was Superintendent at the Lorain County JVS from 1999 until his retirement in 2007, culminating a 40-year career in adult and high school career technical education.
